Utrecht 2016 – A step forward
As President of the European Group for Public Administration, I am especially pleased to invite you to join us for the 2016 EGPA Annual Conference in Utrecht (The Netherlands).
It will be a great occasion to convene during 3-5 days at the University of Utrecht, in the old city. Two departments are involved in the organisation of the 2016 EGPA Conference: the Utrecht University School of Governance (USG) and the Utrecht University School of Law (LAW). These departments provide a powerful intellectual contribution to European PA and the discipline. Utrecht University is a leading institution with a growing international reputation.
Our community of academics and young researchers will find in the Utrecht Campus a fantastic place to convene and meet up, to further push our research towards new progresses and to develop new and exciting projects.
Our Symposium for PhD students will provide an opportunity for young researchers in search of a platform for discussion and a community for their growth, professionally and, first and foremost, humanly. All aspects of the research work will be thoroughly discussed during the PhD symposium: research methods, theoretical approaches, empirical evidence and cases.
Our permanent study groups will find an appropriate venue for their sessions and special panels will be organised at this occasion. With the Dutch association for Public Administration and the journal Bestuurskunde, we would like to address some issues of the current PA agenda. EGPA Policy papers will be discussed, for their preparation, discussion with policy-makers and practitioners, and publication on the EGPA website. EGPA partners will also be invited for discussing the main challenges of PA reforms in the Netherlands and in Europe.
Last but not least, this will be a great opportunity to meet a large number of members from The Netherlands. The Dutch community played a major role in strengthening and reinforcing the European Platform for Public Administration and the EGPA community is keen on being back, after a very successful conference at Erasmus University Rotterdam in 2008, to this wonderful country. EGPA has had two Dutch Presidents – my illustrious predecessors professors Ignace Snellen and Wim van de Donk, to whom I wish to express on behalf of the whole of the EGPA community our gratitude for what they have done. More than ten co-chairs of EGPA Study Groups are from The Netherlands and very many Dutch colleagues take part to the EGPA conference and make a great contribution to animating the works of many Study groups. It will be our great pleasure and honour for EGPA to be back to this great European country.
Dear Participant, I look forward to welcoming you in Utrecht and to your active participation to this 2016 EGPA conference. We will have the opportunity to visit the lively city of Utrecht built around the Dom tower. This extraordinary city also boasts beautiful canals with extraordinary wharf cellars housing cafés and terraces by the water and other monuments that each contribute to the special atmosphere in this centuries-old university town where we will convene for our annual conference.
Join us in Utrecht for a stimulating conference and to discover a modern and smart city with a long history!
